What is the source of this narration?

Ibn Mas’ud said: “Fasting is a man’s shield. The leader of days is Friday, and the leader of the months is the month of Ramadan.”

Answer

Imam ‘Abdur Razzaq (rahimahullah) has recorded this statement of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said: “Fasting is a shield, like the shield you use in war. The leader of all days is the day of Jumu’ah and the leader of all months is the month of Ramadan…”

The words “Fasting is a shield” and ‘The leader of all days is the day of Jumu’ah’ have also been reported as Hadiths of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). See here
