The narration appearing in Tirmidhi regarding offering twenty rak’ahs after Maghrib

Question

What is the status of this Hadith?

من صلى بعد المغرب عشرين ركعة بنى الله له بيتا في الجنة

Whoever offers twenty rak’ahs after Maghrib, Allah will build a home in Jannah for him

Answer

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has alluded to this narration without citing the full chain. He has cited the narration with the wording as appears above in the question.

(Sunan Tirmidhi, after Hadith: 435)

Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah) has recorded the Hadith on the authority of Sayyidah ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu ‘anha). The wording as appears in Sunan Ibn Majah is as follows:

من صلى بين المغرب والعشاء عشرين ركعة بنى الله له بيتا في الجنة

Whoever offers twenty rak’ahs between Maghrib and ‘Isha, Allah will build a home in Jannah for him.

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 1373)

The chain for this narration is extremely weak. See here

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
