Question
Kindly provide the status of this narration:
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَالِمٍ، حَدَّثَنِي الْعَلاَءُ بْنُ عُتْبَةَ، عَنْ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ الْعَنْسِيِّ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ، يَقُولُ كُنَّا قُعُودًا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَذَكَرَ الْفِتَنَ فَأَكْثَرَ فِي ذِكْرِهَا حَتّٰى ذَكَرَ فِتْنَةَ الأَحْلاَسِ فَقَالَ قَائِلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَمَا فِتْنَةُ الأَحْلاَسِ قَالَ «هِيَ هَرَبٌ وَحَرْبٌ ثُمَّ فِتْنَةُ السَّرَّاءِ دَخَنُهَا مِنْ تَحْتِ قَدَمَىْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِي يَزْعُمُ أَنَّهُ مِنِّي وَلَيْسَ مِنِّي وَإِنَّمَا أَوْلِيَائِيَ الْمُتَّقُونَ ثُمَّ يَصْطَلِحُ النَّاسُ عَلَى رَجُلٍ كَوَرِكٍ عَلَى ضِلَعٍ ثُمَّ فِتْنَةُ الدُّهَيْمَاءِ لاَ تَدَعُ أَحَدًا مِنْ هَذِهِ الأُمَّةِ إِلاَّ لَطَمَتْهُ لَطْمَةً فَإِذَا قِيلَ انْقَضَتْ تَمَادَتْ يُصْبِحُ الرَّجُلُ فِيهَا مُؤْمِنًا وَيُمْسِي كَافِرًا حَتَّى يَصِيرَ النَّاسُ إِلَى فُسْطَاطَيْنِ فُسْطَاطِ إِيمَانٍ لاَ نِفَاقَ فِيهِ وَفُسْطَاطِ نِفَاقٍ لاَ إِيمَانَ فِيهِ فَإِذَا كَانَ ذَاكُمْ فَانْتَظِرُوا الدَّجَّالَ مِنْ يَوْمِهِ أَوْ مِنْ غَدِهِ»
Answer
Imam Abu Dawud (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith in his Sunan.
(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 4239)
Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has declared this narration authentic (Sahih), and ‘Allamah Dhahabi (rahimahullah) has concurred.

Translation
‘Umayr ibn Hani (rahimahullah) has said: “I heard ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar [radiyallahu ‘anhuma] saying:
“We were sitting by Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), and he discussed the fitan [i.e., trials and tribulations that will occur towards the end of time]. He spoke in length until he mentioned the fitnah of Ahlas.
[At that point] a person then asked: What is the fitnah of Ahlas?
Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) replied:
‘It is chaos [where people will be fleeing from one another] and plunder.
Thereafter, the fitnah of Sarra [will occur]
Its smoke will emanate from the feet of a man from my household [i.e., this fitnah will be stirred up by a man]. He will claim/assert to be from me [i.e., my progeny], whereas he is not from me. Only the pious are my relatives.
Thereafter, the people will reconcile/reunite with one another over a man [that they will pledge allegiance to] who will be like a hip bone on a rib [i.e., this person will not be suitable to rule or lead them].
Then, the fitnah of Duhayma [will ensue]. It won’t leave anyone from among this ummah except that it will strike him [i.e., affect him directly]. If it is said that it [i.e., this fitnah] has come to an end, it will be extended.
In this fitnah, a man will awaken as a believer and enter the evening as a disbeliever. [This will be the case] Until mankind will become two camps: A camp of Iman [belief] having no hypocrisy, and a camp of hypocrisy having no Iman. When that happens, then await the Dajjal on that day [itself], or the next.
