Question

Regarding the following Hadith, where is the valley of مَرّ قَناة (Marr Qanah) located?

عن ابن عمر رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: يَنْزِلُ الدَّجَّالُ فِى هَذِهِ السَّبَخَةِ بِمَرِّ قَنَاةَ فَيَكُونُ أَكْثَرَ مَنْ يَخْرُجُ إِلَيْهِ النِّسَاءُ حَتَّى إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لِيَرْجِعُ إِلَى حَمِيمِهِ وَإِلَى أُمِّهِ وَابْنَتِهِ وَأُخْتِهِ وَعَمَّتِهِ فَيُوثِقُهَا رِبَاطاً مَخَافَةَ أَنْ تَخْرُجَ إِلَيْهِ…

Answer

The commentators of Hadith have mentioned that مَرّ قَناة (Marr Qanah), also known as وادي قناة (the valley of Qanah) is a valley near Madinah.

Translation

Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) has narrated that Rasulullah (salllallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) has said: “The Dajjal will settle down in this salty swamp by the valley of Qanah. Those that come out to [frequent] him the most will be the women; so much so that a man will return to tie up his relatives, his mother, daughter, sister, and [even paternal] aunt out of fear of her [i.e. them] going out to [visit] him [i.e. the Dajjal].
