Question

Regarding the following narration wherein Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) made du’a for Sayyidah ‘Aaishah (radiyallahu ‘anha):

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِعَائِشَةَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنبِهَا وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ، مَا أَسَرَّتْ وَمَا أَعْلَنَتْ

O Allah! Forgive all Aaishah’s sins; the past and future and what was done in secrecy or in public

1) What is the reference in Bazzar?

2) What is the correct pronunciation of the word ذنب? Is it ذنَب (dhanab) or ذنْب (dhanb)?

3) Please help to convert the du’a into the plural form. I wish to recite it asking Allah to forgive the sins of the entire ummah.

Answer

The answer to your queries are as follows:

1) Musnad Bazzar; Kashful Astar, Hadith: 2658

2) The correct pronunciation is ذنْب (dhanb) with a sukun on the ن (Nun).

3) You could recite the du’a as follows:

أَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِأُمَّةِ مُحَمَّدٍ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهَا وَ مَا تَأَخَّرَ ، مَا أَسَرَّتْ وَ مَا أَعْلَنَتْ

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
