Is this Hadith authentic?

إن الصائم تصلي عليه الملائكة إذا أكل عنده حتى يفرغوا

 

Answer

Imams Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyidah Ummu ‘Umarah Al Ansariyyah (radiyallahu ‘anha).

Sayyidah Ummu ‘Umarah Al Ansariyyah (radiyallahu ‘anha) reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) visited her and she offered him some food. He told her to eat and she said, “I am fasting.” Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “The angels [seek forgiveness] for the fasting person when food is consumed in his presence until they stop eating/are satiated.”

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 785)

 

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic (hasanun sahih). Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has also declared the Hadith authentic.
