Is this narration authentic?

أن رجلا تهاون – أو تخلف – عن الصلاة حتى يكبر الإمام، قال ابن مسعود، وابن عمر: لما فاتك منها خير من ألف.

 

Answer

Imam ‘Abdur Razzaq (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration. The narration is suitable to quote.

Yahya ibn Abi Kathir relates that a man was lax or delayed beginning the Salah until the Imam made Takbir. Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud and Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhum) remarked, “The portion you have missed is better than one thousand.”

(Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq, Hadith: 2020)

Some non primary sources have referenced this narration to Musannaf ‘Abdur Razzaq with the words: “The portion you have missed is better than one thousand camels.”
