Question

What is the status of this Hadith?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Mankind will be resurrected on the Day of Qiyamah in three classes; one walking, one riding and one walking on their faces. It was asked: O Rasulullah! How will they walk on their faces? He replied: Verily, the Being who made them walk on their feet is able to make them walk on their faces. They will avoid with their face every obstacle and thorn.”

Answer

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu). He has declared the Hadith sound (hasan).

(٣١٤٢) – حدثنا عبد بن حميد قال: حدثنا الحسن بن موسى، وسليمان بن حرب، قالا: حدثنا حماد بن سلمة، عن علي بن زيد، عن أوس بن خالد، عن أبي هريرة، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «يحشر الناس يوم القيامة ثلاثة أصناف: صنفا مشاة، وصنفا ركبانا، وصنفا على وجوههم»، قيل: يا رسول الله، وكيف يمشون على وجوههم؟ قال: «إن الذي أمشاهم على أقدامهم قادر على أن يمشيهم على وجوههم، أما إنهم يتقون بوجوههم كل حدب وشوك».
قال الترمذي: «هذا حديث حسن».
