What is the authenticity of this narration?

قيل لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: أي الناس أفضل؟ قال: كل مخموم القلب، صدوق اللسان ، قالوا: صدوق اللسان، نعرفه، فما مخموم القلب؟ قال: هو التقي النقي، لا إثم فيه، ولا بغي، ولا غل، ولا حسد

 

Answer

Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (radiyallahu ‘anhuma). ‘Allamah Busiri (rahimahullah) has declared the chain of narrators reliable.

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 4216. Refer: Zawaid Sunan Ibn Majah, pg. 547, Hadith: 1431)

 

Translation

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was asked, ‘Which people are the best?’ He said, ‘Those with pure hearts and truthful tongues’. They said, ‘We know the meaning of truthful tongues, but what is pure hearts?’ Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) replied, ‘[It is that heart which is] Allah conscious, clean, sinless, and has no injustice nor envy or jealousy/malice’

 

 

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
