Touch of Shaytan at childbirth


Narrated Sa’id Ibnul Musayib, Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) said:

“I heard Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) saying, ‘There is none born among the off-spring of Adam, but Shaytan touches it. A child therefore, cries loudly at the time of birth because of the touch of Shaytan, except Maryam and her child.”

Then Abu Hurayrah recited: “And I seek refuge with You for her and for her offspring from the outcast Shaytan”

(Surah Aalu ‘Imram, Verse: 36)

What is meant by the touch of Shaytan in this Hadith, does it mean jinn possession? Some claim Shaytan is able to influence how a baby is born like the case of mentally brain damaged children and cite this Hadith saying Shaytan touched them. Can you kindly explain the meaning of the following narration:

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Busr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said: “Some time ago I heard/It used to be said, ‘When you are in a group of people, who number twenty, or more or less, and you examine their faces, and you do not see any person among them who is being respected for the sake of Allah [despite his piety and knowledge], then know well that the condition has weakened [i.e. the people’s piety has decreased and their Din has become weak].”

Explanation of a line in Fathul Bari


In the following line of Fathul Bari

إذ ذاك أسلم بعد فلا يحتج به

Is ذاك referring to Sayyiduna ‘Urwah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) and does it mean that the person who saw the dream was not present after Sayyiduna ‘Urwah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) accepted Islam?
