Is this authentic?

Dawud (‘alayhis salam) used to make the following du’a:

اللهم إني أسألك أربعًا: لسانا ذاكرًا وقلبًا شاكرًا، وبدنًا صابرًا، وزوجة تعينني في دنياي وآخرتي

Answer

I have not come across this du’a in any primary source.

Imam Abul Layth As Samarqandi (rahimahullah) cited it in Tambihul Ghafilin as part of a longer du’a, without mentioning a chain of narrators.

Nevertheless, the meaning of the du’a is correct and it may be recited although it seems to be from historical (Israely) narrations.

Translation: “O Allah, I ask You for four things: a tongue that remembers You, a heart that is grateful to You, a body that remains patient, and a wife who assists me in the affairs of this world and the Hereafter.”

Note: Some of the qualities mentioned in this du‘a are also mentioned in Hadith as being among the best forms of wealth, and those granted such qualities are described as having been given the best of this world and the Hereafter. See here, here and here.

وروي عن سعيد، عن قتادة ، أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ، قال: «أربع من أعطيهن فقد أعطي خيري الدنيا والآخرة: لسان ذاكر، وقلب شاكر، وبدن صابر، وزوجة مؤمنة صالحة»
ويقال: كان من دعاء داود عليه الصلاة والسلام: اللهم إني أسألك أربعة، وأعوذ بك من أربعة: أما اللواتي أسألك، فلسانا ذاكرا وقلبا شاكرا، وبدنا صابرا، وزوجة تعينني في دنياي وآخرتي.
وأما اللواتي أعوذ بك منهن، فأعوذ بك من ولد يكون علي سيدا، ومن امرأة تشيبني قبل وقت المشيب، ومن مال يكون وبالا علي، ومن جار لو رأى مني حسنة كتمها، ولو رأى مني سيئة أفشاها.
