Explanation of when the missed ‘Asr Salah was performed


In the two narrations below, one Hadith seems to indicate that the missed ‘Asr Salah was read after the Maghrib Salah whilst the other indicates that the missed ‘Asr Salah was read before the Maghrib Salah. What is the explanation and/or tatbiq for this?

عن على رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يوم الأحزاب: شغلونا عن الصلاة الوسطى صلاة العصر ملأ الله بيوتهم وقبورهم نارا، ثم صلاها بين العشاءين، بين المغرب والعشاء.

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 627)


عن جابر بن عبد الله رضي الله عنه: أن عمر بن الخطاب يوم الخندق جعل يسب كفار قريش وقال: يا رسول الله، والله ما كدت أن أصلي العصر حتى كادت أن تغرب الشمس، فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: فوالله إن صليتها، فنزلنا إلى بطحان فتوضأ رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وتوضأنا، فصلى رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم العصر بعد ما غربت الشمس ثم صلى بعدها المغرب

The virtue of Fajr Salah in congregation


Which of these two is the version mentioned in Hadith? And what is the status of its chain?

1) Whoever prays the dawn prayer (Fajr) in congregation is under the protection of Allah for that day.

The severity of missing Salah

Can I have the reference for this Hadith?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“If a person hears the Adhan and does not go to the Masjid without a valid excuse, his Salah [performed alone] is not accepted. When the Sahabah asked as to what a valid excuse could be, he replied, ‘Illness or fear.'”

The Sahabah would consider those who missed Fajr and ‘Isha Salah to be hypocrites


There is a narration in Sahih ibn Hibban, wherein Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) states:

كنا إذا فقدنا الإنسان في صلاة الصبح والعشاء أسأنا به الظن

Translation: If we (The Sahabah) did not see someone for Fajr and ‘Isha Salah, we would have evil thoughts [that they are hypocrites]
