Abud Darda (radiyallahu ‘anhu) on illness expiating sins

Question

What is the authenticity of the following?

On the authority of [Abur] Rabbab Al Qushayri (rahimahullah) who said:

“We entered upon Abud Darda (radiyallahu ‘anhu) to visit him, when a Bedouin entered upon him. So he said: Where is your Amir? Abud Darda was the Amir then. We said,  ‘He is complaining of some pain’. The Bedouin said,  ‘I have never complained of any pain’ or he said,  ‘I did not experience a headache ever’! Abud Darda (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said,  ‘Remove him from me, he will die with his sins’. I do not love that for every pain/sickness that I feel that I am given red camels. For verily, the pain/illness of a believer is an expiation for his sins”

Once Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) came home to Ummu Habibah (radiyallahu ‘anha). Sayyiduna Mu’awiyah was resting his head on her and Ummu Habibah (radiyallahu ‘anha) kissed him. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) asked her whether she loved him. To this Ummu Habibah (radiyallahu ‘anha) declared that he was her brother and therefore she definitely loved him. Authenticity of an incident regarding Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu)

Question

I was informed of an incident in which Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) told Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) soon after he accepted Islam, that I will be the first man to go to Jannah.

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) asked him how?

So he replied that before Islam, I was the one who gave you the most difficulity, which means my sins were the highest, and now that I have accepted Islam, all my sins have turned into good deeds/rewards, so now my good deeds are the highest, thus I will be the first one to enter Jannah. (To the closest effect)

Can Moulana please provide a reference for this, and what is the state of its sanad if any?

As soon as I heard it, it came across as a bit strange to me, it was somehow against the character of Sayyiduna Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu), who is so famous for his fear of akhirah, to say this. If Moulana could please check, this will be much appreciated. Jazakallah. Read More »
